Gutter Installation & Repair

Gutters not only add beauty to a home or property but also protect it by directing water away from the building.Interstate is proud to offer continuous gutters in a variety of colors, material types, sizes, and styles. Interstate’s custom gutters are extruded from coil stock onsite using a custom gutter fabrication machine operated by Interstate employees. Five inch and six inch “K” style gutters are popular with most homeowners. Six-inch fascia gutters are generally more aesthetically pleasing on homes with steeper roofs that call for more of an architectural look. All three styles are proven systems and can be custom cut to best suit your home.

Gutters Q&A

Q. How will you slope the gutters so they will drain?

A. It may look nicer to have level gutters, but it’s better if they slope slightly downhill towards the downspouts. Just a little slope, about 1/16th inch per linear foot, is all that is needed. Long gutter runs may require gutter spouts on each end and a gutter slopes in both directions from the center.

Q. What size gutters does Interstate offer?

A. We offer cost effective 5k, 6k and 6in Fascia Continuous Gutters. We also install half round 24 gauge gutters. All gutter types come in multiple color choices including copper.

Q. What size downspouts are you going to install?

A. We use a standard 2x3in downspout and suggest “clean-outs” for easy maintenance. Oversized 3x4in downspouts are available for heavy drainage areas.

Q. What are clean-outs?

A. Clean-Outs are an accessory added to the downspout, which prevents debris from flowing into the ground drain. They are installed on the downspout about “knee” high, which allows for easy cleaning.

Q. How thick is the metal on the gutters you’re planning to install

A. We install primed or pre-painted gutters that are 26 gage steel or .027 gage Aluminum.

Q. Which is better, aluminum or steel gutters?

A. Both have advantages. Steel is stronger and more durable than aluminum holding it’s shape against ladders, tree branches, etc. Aluminum is a rust free product, which is popular on coastal homes. Both are good products.

Q. How close together will the gutter spikes be spaced?

A. We recommend installing spike, screws or hidden hangers on every other rafter or 36 inches on center.

Q. What are Splash Blocks?

A. There are situations where downspouts don’t flow into underground drains. Splash blocks lie on the ground under the downspout and direct water away from the foundation.

Q. What is a “bird cage”?

A. A bird cage is a screen or wire form that sites in the gutters opening to the downspout with the purpose of preventing debris from flowing into the downspout.
